Previously I reviewed Far Cry 3 on the surface level and deemed it to be a pretty good game. In this post I’ll examine the writing and explain why I think Far Cry 3 is a great game. Beware, there are countless spoilers. If you want to experience the game yourself without my biases, play […]
I’ll tell you straight up – I don’t really like metal. The music, that is. But maybe I hadn’t given it a fair go. Maybe I had approached it wrong, or had it prosthelytised by the wrong people. So I asked my metal-loving friend Bender for a mixtape of metal appreciation. I’ve listened to it, […]
For some honest gaming journalists, this year’s E3 was pretty disappointing. The games industry has never been in such flux, yet the showings at one of the biggest industry shows of the year were very samey – lots of ultraviolence, lots of cutscenes and not a lot in terms of innovation. It seems that in general […]
I review Diablo 3 and Blizzard’s ideas for it.
Mass Effect 3 is out and bringing an end to a much-loved series. However with its arrival, there has been a growing chorus of dislike for the ending. Outpost was an old Sierra game from 1994 (or thereabouts). It’s interesting to see how the artifact […]
So I promised to talk about Steam and Valve’s foray into microtransactions. Since the last installment I’ve finished Portal 2 again and played a bunch of other games. The Internet has died down and I’ve lost all the steam for my rant (pun somewhat intended). So I’ll keep this short: I think Steam is one […]
So Valve Software recently released their much-awaited sequel to Portal. Before its release they published a number of in-house generated trailers, and promoted the release with an alternate reality game. The game came out, the critics almost universally loved it, but on Metacritic, the forums and blogs there seemed to be general ire against the game and Valve in particular. I’d like to explore this to get a feel of the current games market and blow off some steam on Portal 2, the ARG, Steam and Valve themselves.
